Relay For Life IGH | SSP | WSP annual Relay For Life event
August 2, 2025, at Lincoln Center Elementary in South St. Paul
The local event is in its 21st year while the national organization celebrates 40 years. The one-day event is a celebration, remembrance, and community-building event that brings people together to fight cancer— raising donations to support the American Cancer Society’s eorts; celebrating those who are fighting and have beaten cancer; and honoring those lost. Last year’s event beat its $35,000 fundraising goal with over $57,000 in funds that go to support cancer research and patients in our community.
All are welcome and encouraged to attend the event.
- Saturday, August 2, 2025
- Lincoln Center Elementary School, 357 9th Ave N, South St. Paul, MN 55075
- 4–10 pm with activities planned throughout the afternoon and evening
Chairs: Darlene Tinucci, Kristi Larson
Fundraising goal: $40,000
Event theme: retro board games
Honorary survivor speaker: Sarah Kostohryz
This year’s honorary survivor, Sarah Kostohryz is a life-long South St. Paul resident—from Jefferson Elementary through South St. Paul High to today. She was diagnosed with triple-positive breast cancer with two types of tumors in January of 2023, and her treatment included mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation. She was declared cancer free by the end of that same year.
Kostohryz and her father, Bob Carter, were diagnosed with cancer within a month of each other. Losing him to melanoma in March of 2023 inspired Sarah’s cancer fight, and she walks at Relay For Life for him.
Relay For Life is far more than a fundraiser—it’s an experience that brings hope, healing, and togetherness.
The event will feature:
- Celebrating cancer survivors: Cancer survivors from our community receive a free t-shirt with registration. Join the survivors lap to be cheered on.
- Celebrating caregivers: Friends, family members, and healthcare workers who have cared for a cancer patient follow the survivors lap with the caregivers lap.
- Luminaria ceremony: As the sundown we light the pre-made luminaria bags in honor of or in memory of loved ones.
- Food and activities: Relay teams host welcoming spaces with activities, items for sale, games, and any other surprises they’ve worked up throughout the year. There will be food trucks oering a variety of options.
